Korea Trip 2017

zaterdag 30 december 2017

It's almost the end of the year but this year has been such a rollercoaster, full with up and downs, but a year I'll never forget. One of the highlights from 2017 was my trip to Korea and it's a must go destination! Not only for the cheap makeup but also for the food, the culture and the people because everyone is so nice there. I was there for only a week but I can't wait to go back and explore more of not only Seoul but other cities as well. Here's my short list of things to do in Seoul that made my trip awesome.

Summer in Korea is hot guys so prepare yourself for a face full of melting makeup and sweaty armpits (lol). Even Koreans can't stand the heat because most of them walk around with a super cute portable fan which you can buy almost everywhere on the streets. A must go and Valhalla for us make-up junkies is Myeongdong. It's a long street full with make-up stores varying from Etude House to Laneige. But there's so much more to do there than just make-up because the whole street is filled with street food. A perfect win-win situation for you and the boyfriend ;) Since we're talking about street food now let me tell you something. It's G O O D. It's cheap and it's good, what else could you ask for. Eating out is quite cheap there as well, even cheaper than doing grocery shopping! So it's okay to eat Korean BBQ everyday and if you're tired of eating KBBQ all the time you should try out Korean chicken. It will become your new favorite Korean dish. Korean chicken and beer, the perfect combination every Korean raves about and you'll understand why.

One stop you can't miss is Hongdae, the place for youngsters. Hongdae is packed with restaurants (korean chicken!!) and fashion. There's a long street there that looks like a market full with clothes mainly targeted for girls. The clothes are cheap so if you're on a budget or just want to get a lot of clothes for less than this is a must stop for you. Plus we're talking about Korea here, one of the most fashionable countries in the world so the clothes here are good stuff, you can't go wrong. Hongdae is actually much more fun in the evening hours because it's the clubbing area and performers fill the streets for various acts. Don't worry! A lot of stores and restaurants in Korea are open till late so you can sleep in and don't miss a thing.

You can't miss these two places on your trip to Korea but there are other things that are worth mentioning, so here's a breakdown of the different neighborhoods and activities I recommend to do in Seoul.

  • If you're more into luxurious brands and prepared to pay a lot of money, then Gangnam is the place for you to go. It's an expensive and high class neighborhood home to a few entertainment companies. You can spot high end brands here but Gangnam is also known for plastic surgery. There's a plastic surgeon on every corner here so if you're going to Korea for that reason you'll probably end up in Gangnam.
  • Itaewon is home to almost every expat so you'll see a lot of foreigners here. There's also a lot of clubs and bars and a lot of foreigners go clubbing here instead of Hongdae.
  • If you want to learn more about Korea or their culture then visiting a palace is a must see. It's located in the city so the mixture between urban and history is very interesting to see. The largest one is Gyeongbokgung Palace and renting a hanbok (traditional korean dress) to stroll around in adds even more to the experience. Entrance is free for everyone wearing a hanbok so it's almost impossible to resist wearing one.
Here are a few pictures to accompany the lovely Seoul and my time there. Hope you enjoyed this blogpost and see you in 2018!

Loves, Diana
